The Turtle and the Kite

Theo the turtle made a kite from blue paper and two thin sticks. He took it to the meadow, where the other animals were already flying theirs.

Theo, la tortuga, hizo una cometa con papel azul y dos palitos. La llevó al prado, donde los demás animales ya hacían volar las suyas.

Theo ran as fast as he could, but the kite dragged through the grass. He tried again and again. “Maybe turtles are too slow for kites,” he whispered.

Theo corrió tan rápido como pudo, pero la cometa se arrastró por la hierba. Lo intentó una y otra vez. —Quizá las tortugas somos demasiado lentas para las cometas —susurró.

Then he noticed the tall reeds bending beside the pond. Wind was coming. Theo climbed a small hill, held his kite above his head, and waited. A warm gust lifted the paper from his hands.

Entonces vio que los juncos altos se doblaban junto al estanque. Se acercaba el viento. Theo subió una pequeña colina, levantó la cometa sobre su cabeza y esperó. Una ráfaga tibia le quitó el papel de las manos.

Up it went, higher than the reeds and the meadow flowers. Theo laughed as the blue kite danced against the clouds.

La cometa subió más alto que los juncos y las flores del prado. Theo se rio mientras el papel azul bailaba entre las nubes.

He had not needed to run faster. He only needed to find the right place and give the wind a chance to help.

No necesitaba correr más rápido. Solo tenía que encontrar el lugar adecuado y dejar que el viento lo ayudara.
